ELEC and CENG programs for students enrolled before September 2010

The B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering program offered five specializations:

  • Electronics
  • Communications
  • Digital signal processing
  • Electrical energy systems
  • Electromagnetics and photonics

Specialization consisted of 3 compulsory technical courses focused on one of the technical areas indicated above, or completion of any 3 of the compulsory specialization courses (General specialization).

The B.Eng. in Computer Engineering program offered two specializations:

  • Systems engineering
  • Software engineering

ECE also offered the following options to students wishing to pursue further a subject area covered by an option. Options are additional courses that are offered beyond a B. Eng. degree requirement.

Program Change Impacts:

  1. Regardless of program enrolment date, all students are expected to follow the new programs effective summer 2012. The department realizes that during the transition, it may be infeasible for some students to adhere strictly to the new programs or the modified programs outlined below. In these situations, please contact the Advising office (engradv2@uvic.ca) for assistance in modifying your program schedule.
  2. Students starting term 2B in summer 2012 follow the new program.
  3. CENG Students starting term 3A in spring 2012 may follow one of the modified programs below:

    • This modified program means making Fall 2013 an academic term, with a lighter course load for all terms after Spring 2012, and lasting only one term longer than the above programs.
    • A total of 7 Technical Electives selected from the list of technical electives
    • No ENGR 446

  4. For CENG students, the general guideline is to replace CENG 245 & CSC 225 with new course CENG 242 (first offering summer 2012), replace CSC 360 and SENG 321 with new course CENG 356 (first offering fall 2013), and take on two ELEC courses. Please contact the Advising office (engradv2@uvic.ca) for further details.
  5. Students starting term 4A in summer 2012 follow their current schedule, or take ELEC 399 (vice ELEC 395 and ENGR 446) then CENG/ELEC 499 in spring 2013.
