Natural Science Elective
Effective February 14, 2013
Students must submit a written notification to the Academic Advisor (email engradv2@uvic.ca) indicating which course they are requesting to be used as a science elective course in order to receive credit. Students will receive a written response to this request. For all courses listed, students must still comply to published pre-requisites.
The following specific courses have been APPROVED by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department as acceptable science electives.

- MATH 122 - Logic and Foundations
- MATH 222 - Discrete and Combinatorial Mathematics
- MATH 368B - Non-Euclidean Geometry
- PE 155 - Introduction of Nutrition: Concepts and Controversies
- PHYS 214 - Introduction to Laboratory Electronics
- PHYS 220 - Mechanics and Special Relativity
ECE review of science electives is on-going; new requests must meet the below CEAB criteria and may be submitted by email request to the Academic Advisor (email engradv2@uvic.ca).
Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) definition of Basic (natural) Sciences:
The basic (natural) sciences component of the curriculum must include elements of physics and chemistry; elements of life sciences and earth sciences may also be included in this category. These subjects are intended to impart an understanding of natural phenomena and relationships through the use of analytical and/or experimental techniques.
